We are thrilled to announce our new interns for 2022/2023 and are honored to have added some amazing people to the team! First up we have, Zeynep Burak! Her experience, talent and insight are a welcome addition to the 7000 Languages organization. Read on to get to know her a little better!
Please introduce yourself:
I have a BA in Linguistics from Boğaziçi University. I’m Laz and a heritage speaker of Laz. For the past 3 years, I’ve been working with researchers as well as indigenous language societies to preserve and nurture the multilingual environment of Turkey as part of numerous societies and projects.

When did you first hear about 7000 Languages?
On May 2022
How has your relationship with language impacted who you are?
The intersectionality of being a minority language speaker shaped the way I perceive society and the way I approach concepts like equality, diversity and community. The relationship I have with Laz is what made me passionate about language revitalization.
What are your hopes for the future of endangered language development and revitalization?
I hope to see more efforts that are spearheaded by the speakers and the communities themselves.
What are you most excited about interning with 7000 Languages?
Creating the course! (Laz)
Do you have any other interests or hobbies that you would like to share?
I paint and I’m a pretty good skater.
