Oji-Cree

Oji-Cree is a variety of Ojibwe that got its name because it "borrows" many of its words from the Cree language. Another name for Oji-Cree is Severn Ojibwe.

There are several varieties of Ojibwe, and each variety is significantly different from the others. Because of this, some people consider Ojibwe to be a group of related languages instead of a single language!

Oji-Cree is spoken mainly in Northern Ontario and Northern Manitoba.

Our Oji-Cree course was created by Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre in 2012.
