Northwestern Ojibwe

Ojibwe is a First Nations language spoken in the northern US and south-central Canada. The Ojibwe people refer to themselves as Anishinaabe, and their Ojibwe language is called Anishinaabemowin.

There are several varieties of Ojibwe, and each variety is significantly different from the others. Because of this, some people consider Ojibwe to be a group of related languages instead of a single language!

Our Northwestern Ojibwe course was created by the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre in 2012. It features the variety of Ojibwe spoken in Ontario and eastern Manitoba.
