Gwich'in, also known as Dinjii Zhuh K'yaa, is an Athabaskan language spoken by the Gwich’in people of northeastern Alaska, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories of Canada. For generations, the language has connected Gwich’in communities across the North, reflecting a way of life deeply tied to the land, rivers, and caribou that have sustained them.
Created by the Doyon Foundation in 2019 as part of the Doyon Languages Online project, this course introduces learners to the Gwich'in language through practical vocabulary and everyday expressions. By learning Gwich'in, students help support the continuation of a language that remains an essential part of Gwich’in culture and community.
