Dakota

Dakota is the language of the Dakota people. The Dakota and other peoples have been called the "Sioux" by French and English colonists, but each group has its own name.

There are several varieties of the Dakota language, each spoken by a different oyate (nation) of the Dakota people.

Our Dakota course was created by the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre in 2012. It features the variety of Dakota spoken in Manitoba and south-central Canada.
