Taino
Taíno, or Taínoaíki, is the ancestral language of the Taíno people of the Caribbean, whose homelands include Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Cuba, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. A member of the Arawakan language family, Taíno was widely spoken before colonization, and while it ceased to be used as a daily language centuries ago, many words remain in Caribbean Spanish and other regional languages.
Today, Taíno is a reawakening language drawing on historical sources and related Arawakan languages. Created by Priscilla Colón of Casa Areyto with support from 7000 Languages and the National Native American Language Resource Center, this is the first digital Taíno course for English speakers. The Tainonaíki for Beginners course includes 52 themed units and 138 lessons covering everyday conversation, culture, nature, and basic communication skills.
