Northwestern Ojibwe
Northwestern Ojibwe is a variety of Anishinaabemowin, the language of the Anishinaabe people. It is spoken primarily in parts of Ontario and eastern Manitoba and is one of several distinct varieties within the Ojibwe language continuum.
The different varieties of Ojibwe can vary significantly in pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. Because of these differences, some linguists and speakers view Ojibwe as a group of closely related languages rather than a single language.
Our Northwestern Ojibwe course was created by the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre in 2012 and focuses on the Northwestern Ojibwe variety spoken in Ontario and eastern Manitoba.
