Central Pomo
New course coming soon from our 2026 Reclaim and Sustain Fellow Katie Williams-Elliot from the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians, and a member of the California Native Languages cohort. Katie has devoted her life to preserving and sharing her community’s language, traditions, and lifeways. Inspired and mentored by respected community elders, including language teacher Cynthia Daniels, Katie has spent decades learning, teaching, and strengthening multiple Pomo dialects while ensuring this knowledge is passed to future generations. Her work extends far beyond language instruction, encompassing traditional foods, regalia making, abalone preparation, clacker making, singing, and cultural arts. Having shared Pomo dance and traditions since her youth, she continues to inspire young people through her humble, generous, and community-centered approach to cultural revitalization. Katie’s unwavering dedication to language preservation and cultural education reflects her deep commitment to ensuring the traditions of the Hopland Pomo people continue to thrive for generations to come.
