Bollum

Bollum is the ancestral language of the Bollom people, one of the earliest Indigenous communities of coastal northwestern Sierra Leone. Traditionally spoken along the Great and Little Scarcies Rivers, the language carries generations of history, cultural traditions, and environmental knowledge. Over time, the growing influence of neighboring languages, migration, and social change has left only a small number of fluent speakers, putting Bollum at serious risk of extinction.
Developed to support community-led preservation efforts, this course offers learners an opportunity to connect with the Bollom language and the heritage it represents. By learning and using Bollum, students help celebrate Sierra Leone's Indigenous traditions and contribute to the ongoing work of keeping the language alive for future generations.
